[...] A friend of mine, Jeff Moss, with reference to the Military Commissions Act, recently made the following comment on my post, “Agree to Disagree, Even with that ‘Nutcase’“: “Or is awaiting such determination” would only mean that anybody who claims to be a citizen but cannot (will not) present proof should be held until it can be determined whether or not they are a citizen. The feds could determine citizenship of a cooperative suspect in a matter of minutes. The alternative of releasing a dangerous person is more of a concern to me. [...]

JD, thanks for your comments. I think we both agree that sending money to terrist organizations, whether disguised as charitable donations or not, is Not Good. The question that remains in my mind, however, is how much do you trust the government?

How much does Maher Arar, the Canadian computer consultant who, while innocent, was tortured by the USA, trust the government?

I think it's time to wake up and recognize that to the extent that government is awarded power, that power will be exercised--and not benevolently.

With regard to Allen Roland, while I can't vouch for him personally, I don't think it does you or anyone else any credit to stick "nutcase" on an intelligent person and pretend everything he or she has ever said does not count. Please see my most recent post, "Agree to Disagree, Even with that Nutcase."

All ya gotta do is go to the link below and then follow the links at the bottom of the article that list these questionable organizations. Took all of 10 seconds to find on Google.

http://www.ustreas.gov/offices/enforcement/key-issues/protecting/charities_exec-orders.shtml

Verify your charity doesn't send money to those groups! Or you could just google a charity prior to giving and look into their background, etc. If a charity has less then full and open disclosure, don't give them any money. Just take all the Katrina relief charities, many of them were outright fraud. It's expected that billions went missing due to fraudulent charities. Including legitimate charities - Remember those Red Cross debit cards? Somehow buying Gucci handbags, paying lap dancers, and buying cart loads of booze don't qualify as relief aid...

The charities I give to even send me a tax statement so I can declare the donation on my federal tax form! They also publish annual reports that explain in great detail where the money went and for what purpose.

Somehow I don't believe that Duanne Johnson is sending money to Hamas, Hezbollah, or any Al Qaeda based charities! At least I hope not...

Hezbollah has many hundreds of agents in the USA right now, they have thousands of supporters and they are actively raising money and sending it to Lebanon, Syria, and Iran to support terrorist activities. How do you think they pay for a 100,000 missiles to rain death on Israel? Some of that money was taken out in the open by so called phony charities. The rest is obtained by illegal ventures such as illicit drug sales, insurance fraud, etc. Not to mention huge amounts of money coming in from the Iranian government was well as entire arms shipments ( a few of which were recently turned back by the Turkish air force).

Do I like the idea of naturalized citizens being taken off to Gitmo for giving to a charity? I don't know... Somehow, I don't think a regular Joe giving a few hundred bucks is the target here. I think it's more likely a business owner who funnels hundreds of thousands to terrorists via various front groups. If that's the case, that individual knew what they were doing or should have known what they were doing. Then I have no problem with that person being a suspected terrorist and am completely at ease with their being dragged off to Gitmo for questioning.

Corporations have to monitor their charitable giving to ensure the money is not going to these restricted groups. There are many more laws then what you list here. All financial companies have detailed and federally mandated procedures when it comes to money laundering, etc. These same banned groups are part of that process. Red flags go off when someone tries to deposit large sums of money and then quickly withdraw it within a few weeks even though the financial penalty is enormous. Both charities and money laundering are heavily monitored.

Hezbollah is more then a terrorist group, they are a political party and a charitable group and have done many great things in Lebanon, however, they do cause a huge amount of damage at the same time. They have a very strong public relations wing which is adept at spreading propaganda to civilians. At the same time their military wing is lobbing tens of thousands of missiles into Israel.

A comparison would be if the Red Cross was taking money for charitable uses and using some of the money to buy weapons for Sudanese guerillas so they can slaughter non-Muslims. In that case, I would want the practice to be stopped.

There are good reasons to ban conflict diamonds, just as there are good reasons to ban these so-called charitable groups that have blood on their hands!

Civil liberties are very important, but it does not give you the right to fund death and destruction. Do you even know what the word fascist means?

"The term Fascism was first used of the totalitarian right-wing nationalist regime of Mussolini in Italy (1922–43), and the regimes of the Nazis in Germany and Franco in Spain were also fascist. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one national or ethnic group, a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach." -- Oxford American English dictionary

You do see the difference between Nazi Germany and America right? The main feature of Fascism is overwhelming force in exercising their will. I don't see the anti-war protesters being rounded up and executed. I don't think the FBI is monitoring your blog and communications because of your outspoken protest against Bush. Want to experience Fascism up close and personal? Try living in Iran, North Korea, or China and protest the government while there. Try travel to Saudi Arabia and carry a Bible or even better a Torah written in Hebrew, you'll find your holy book confiscated and your ass deported quicker then you can say Allah!

Sure quote Allen L. Roland to support your understanding of a Fascist state -- He's a nutcase;

"The basic underlying and uniting force of the universe is a psychic energy field of love and soul consciousness (the Unified Field) which lies not only beyond time and space but ALSO beneath our deepest fears." - Allen L. Roland, Ph.D.

"The basic underlying force of the universe is a psychic energy field of universal love, within which gravitational and electromagnetic fields, the strong and weak forces in the atom, and all other forces of nature, including time and space, are merely conditions of state. Within this psychic realm of love, paranormal events such as clairvoyance, telepathy, precognition and near-death experiences are also conditions of state. The principal property of this field of love is its propensity to unite, complete and fulfill all living beings within a constantly evolving loving plan. This field of love is the absolute constant of the universe in that within it, time and space do not exist. Thus, we are instantly joined with the past, present and future of a universe which is in the process of uniting, completing and fulfilling itself."

Hmm this guy sounds like a hippy drippy stoned loser to me! I guess anyone can get a Ph.D. nowadays... Oh wait, his biography lists where he got the Ph.D and what it's in -- spiritual psychology from Greenwich University. What the hell is spiritual psychology? Sounds like he's a Ghost Buster!

Good God Man, open your eyes, look into the backgrounds of the people you are listening to! Stop drinking the Kool-Aid! If you are going to quote someone at least look into who they are first. You might as well be listening to Jim Jones (JonesTown Massacre).
