The question that remains in my mind, however, is how much do you trust the government? How much does Maher Arar, the Canadian computer consultant who, while innocent, was tortured by the USA, trust the government? I think it's time to wake up and recognize that to the extent that government is awarded power, that power will be exercised--and not benevolently. With regard to Allen Roland, while I can't vouch for him personally, I don't think it does you or anyone else any credit to stick "nutcase" on an intelligent person and pretend everything he or she has ever said does not count. Including legitimate charities - Remember those Red Cross debit cards? Somehow buying Gucci handbags, paying lap dancers, and buying cart loads of booze don't qualify as relief aid... The charities I give to even send me a tax statement so I can declare the donation on my federal tax form! They also publish annual reports that explain in great detail where the money went and for what purpose. Somehow I don't believe that Duanne Johnson is sending money to Hamas, Hezbollah, or any Al Qaeda based charities! At least I hope not... Hezbollah has many hundreds of agents in the USA right now, they have thousands of supporters and they are actively raising money and sending it to Lebanon, Syria, and Iran to support terrorist activities. How do you think they pay for a 100,000 missiles to rain death on Israel? Some of that money was taken out in the open by so called phony charities. The rest is obtained by illegal ventures such as illicit drug sales, insurance fraud, etc. Not to mention huge amounts of money coming in from the Iranian government was well as entire arms shipments ( a few of which were recently turned back by the Turkish air force). Corporations have to monitor their charitable giving to ensure the money is not going to these restricted groups. There are many more laws then what you list here. Red flags go off when someone tries to deposit large sums of money and then quickly withdraw it within a few weeks even though the financial penalty is enormous.
