Some Background

I grew up in scenic British Columbia, Canada.  I didn’t know how gorgeous Canada was until I moved to Taiwan. I had a Chinese friend of mine show pictures that he’d taken of the Rocky Mountains. My jaw dropped. What a breathtakingly beautiful place to be from!  I met my wife, Kelty, in Provo, Utah while attending Brigham Young University.  Kelty and I, and our daughter Rella, now live in Chicago, IL.

Education

I graduated from BYU in the summer of 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.  A lot of my time has gone in to learning web-based applications and related technologies such as Ruby, Javascript, LaTeX, and the answer to life (it’s 42).  I blog about technology and science at InquiryLabs, philosophy and spirituality at Posterous, and we have a family blog on blogspot.

Languages

English, Chinese, and French. And then a bunch of technical languages.

Not Work

I spend a lot of time thinking about life and our potential as human beings.  I find it thrilling to live in an age when it is no longer true that there is “nothing new under the sun.”  I care a lot about health and the quality of life that we share.  As a consequence, I try to eat well and be aware of the latest in health science.  As a technology guy, I also love to learn about new discoveries in physics, genetics, and computation.  Transhumanism has been a particularly interesting paradigm to explore and one that I find myself drawn toward.
